Disney+ Shows Announced at D23

There is a lot of content coming to Disney+ and we are so excited. During the D23 Disney+ panel, they announced some old and some new shows that will be available. There’s a big variety, and everyone will be able to find something to watch on the new streaming service. To read about the Star Wars and Marvel content that was announced, read our article here.

To start off, we found out the “entire Pixar library” will be available. While nothing specific was said, we expect that will include all the shorts as well. I would love to have easy access to some of the classics like “Geri’s Game,” which is still one of my favorites, and “Tin Toy”. All the Disney animated features will be available as well, which means you can watch movies like Fun and Fancy Free or The Three Caballeros, which are hard to find.

For those of us who love the Disney Channel, or at least us millennials who grew up watching DCOMs, they are adding more than 5,000 episodes of Disney channel series and 100 original movies. We will have to wait to see exactly which ones are included, but they did have images of Hannah Montana, Lizzie McGuire, Smart Home, Cheetah Girls, and Phineas and Ferb.

Speaking of Phineas and Ferb, a brand new movie titled Candace Against the Universe is being produced specifically for Disney+. We didn’t see a trailer but they did give some hints. In the movie, Candace gets kidnapped by aliens, and Phineas and Ferb must save her. It will be a great addition to the popular, zany series.

The Cast of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series performs at the Disney+ Sneak Peak at the 2019 D23 Expo.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series will be debuting on Disney+. The name is kind of a mouthful, and I’m not sure what I think about the plot. I would have hoped for something a little more interesting than high schoolers putting on a play of high school musical. But, the music is catchy and has been updated to match the new songs. The cast was there and shared a behind the scenes look. It looks better than I thought, and I think it will live up to the original.

Hilary Duff Introduces the new Lizzie McGuire series coming to Disney+ on November 12.

Hilary Duff came on stage to announce a brand new Lizzie McGuire series. After an exhaustive search to find the new Lizzie, Disney decided no one could fit the role better than Hilary Duff. We were thrilled to hear that Hilary Duff will be reprising her role.

Hilary Duff Introduces the new Lizzie McGuire series coming to Disney+ on November 12.

Lizzie, now 30, will have the perfect job, the perfect man, live in the perfect city, and have to deal the not-so-perfect animated voice in her head. When they announced this show, I was a little worried it would be similar to “Girl Meets World” and “Raven’s Home.” We don’t need another show about the original characters becoming parents and the lives of their kids. I’m glad this one will still be about Lizzie and stay true to the original.

Tony Hale introduces the new Disney+ short series Forky Asks a Question at the D23 Expo.

Next, they announced a series of shorts called “Forky Asks A Question.” Disney shared one of the shorts, and it was CUTE. It’s the awkward Forky we love from Toy Story 4, trying to ask Hamm what money is. The original voice actor, Tony Hale, will continue to voice Forky. We don’t know how many shorts there will be, and I don’t know that anyone will want to sit and binge watch all the shorts at once, but they will be perfect when you have a couple minutes and need a quick laugh.

Aisha Tyler and Ben Feldman introduce the new Monsters at Work series, at the 2019 D23 Expo. The series is coming to Disney+ in November 2019.

We got more information about the new Monsters, Inc. show, Monsters at Work. Unfortunately, it won’t be ready for release when the service starts this November, but it sounds like a great laugh. Tylor Tuskman, voiced by Ben Feldman, is a recent graduate of Monster’s University. Her studied hard and landed a job at Monsters Incorporated as a scarer. On his first day of work he learns that they are now using laughter instead of screams. Hopefully he can figure out how to make people laugh.

The Wolrd According to Jeff Goldblum was announced for Disney+ at the 2019 D23 Expo.

The World According to Jeff Goldblum was next on the docket. It looks like a fun, entertaining, and educational show. In the show, Jeff Goldblum will be traveling the world to better understand things like ice cream and tattoos. Jeff is a funny guy and will make this a great show.

Kristin Bell's new project, Encore!, will be coming to Disney+ in November of 2019. The show was announced at the 2019 D23 Expo.

For those who love Kristen Bell, she has a new show called Encore!, and it’s a show only Kristen could produce. Kristen came on stage to introduce the show; she talked about how much she loved musical theater and how much it influenced her life. So she is picking musicals put on by high schoolers anywhere from 10 to 50 years ago, and bringing the original cast back together, at their high school, to perform again. It looks entertaining and with Kristen Bell hosting, it’s got to be good!

Star Girl is a new movie coming to Disney+ November 2019. It is based on the popular novel of the same name.

Star Girl and Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made were announced next. They will be live action movies based on books of the same name. Star Girl is a coming-of-age story that teaches kids to be confident in themselves. Grace VanderWaal, winner of America’s Got Talent and a Teen Choice Award, will be playing Star Girl.

Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made is a new movie coming to Disney+ November 2019. It is based on the popular novel of the same name.

Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made looks great as well. Eleven-year-old Timmy Failure, played by Winslow Fegley, is the best detective in town. Or at least he thinks so. The trailer was cute and funny; it should be a great family film.

The live action Lady and the Tramp cames to Disney+ in November 2019. The stars of the movie made an appearance at the 2019 D23 Expo.

Lady and the Tramp was next in line and will be ready when Disney+ goes live. I was worried it was going to be just another CGI remake, so I was thrilled when they showed a trailer of real puppies. They trained rescued dogs to play the parts, and they are adorable! Lady and Tramp were even there to introduce the trailer. The story will be similar, but is not exact copy of the original. It will feature two new songs and a rewritten version of “The Siamese Cat Song.”

Togo: the Untold True Story is a movie about a sled runner whose dog, Togo, refuses to be trained. They end up getting stuck in the mountains alone and must work together to survive.

The cast of Noelle, the first Christmas movie coming to Disney+, introduces the story at the Disney+ Sneak Peak at the 2019 D23 Expo.

Noelle is the first Christmas movie for Disney+. Anna Kendrick will be playing Noelle, Santa’s daughter. Her brother Nick, played by Bill Hader, is taking over the family business, until he goes on a weekend trip and doesn’t come back. Noelle and her childhood nanny Elf Polly, played by Shirley MacLaine, must find him and convince him to come home to save Christmas. This is sure to be a great movie, and indicates Disney+ will be showing other Christmas movies, too.

For all you Muppets fans, a brand new Muppets series was announced! They showed a teaser filled with the classic Muppets humor we all love. Despite Kermits best efforts to share details and sneak peaks of the show, Joe from Legal just wouldn’t let him. The Muppets franchise has struggled since Jim Henson died, and I for one really hope this will be the show to bring them back and make them popular again. The series will only be shorts, but it looks like a starting place to rebuild the franchise.

This is a great list of new shows coming to Disney+. This streaming service is going to be huge, with a ton of amazing content. I can’t wait for it’s premier on November 12!!
