Star Wars
The Disney+ panel at D23 was a thrill. While it was nearly two hours of exciting announcements, hearing Ewan McGregor say that he will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi next year was by far my favorite. When he was on the press tour for Christopher Robin last year, he answered a lot of Obi-Wan questions. And the answer was always that he would be willing, but the opportunity hadn’t come yet. He was ecstatic to admit that he’d been keeping it secret. No details were shared about the story, not even a tease. But we did see that it will take place between Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One, during the time Obi-Wan was “hiding” in the desert.

John Favreau and Dave Filoni introduced the debut of the Mandelorian trailer. The story is set in a time when the New Republic is getting set up after the fall of the Empire, a time with little government set up. That means the galaxy has become a dangerous place, and bounty hunters are a much needed service. Disney said that Season 1 will debut with Disney Plus, but there was no word on when we’ll see Season 2.
Clone Wars, Dave Filoni’s popular series about Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan Ahsoka Tano, will receive its next season in February 2020.
Marvel
The Marvel portion was just as exciting as Star Wars. Disney said that there would be “epic” content. That’s a little less specific than “the entire Pixar library;” that’s likely because none of the licensed Marvel content can be included. We’re unlikely to see the non-MCU Spiderman movies on Disney+ any time soon. But most, if not all, of the MCU will be there.
Kevin Feige led the presentation for the Marvel content. He shared the trailer for WandaVision. It was a strange mix of scenes from the Dick Van Dyke show and images of Wanda and Vision from the Avengers movies. It’ll be a mixture of a sitcom and an action-packed super hero movie. We’ll have to wait to see exactly how they pull that one off. Feige also introduced a new animated series for Disney+, based on a comic book called What If…?. Each episode shows what might have happened in the MCU if one detail were changed. For example, maybe it was Peggy Carter that received the super-serum, not Steve Rogers. In this case, Captain Carter would be the hero instead of Captain America. This show is sure to be a load of fun.

Keven Feige introduced logos for three new series coming to Disney+: Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk. We only know that they’ll be coming soon. After these characters debut on Disney+, they will be a full part of the MCU, including appearances in theatrical movies.
